This piece is inspired by Carl Jung's model of the psyche. I read a lot of Carl Jung’s writings to understand and address my ongoing vivid dreams.
The mirror symmetry reflects Jung's belief in the psyche's tendency to seek balance between opposing forces. The eyes symbolize the Persona's window to the outer world, the barrier between the conscious and unconscious melting around it.
The two hands, positioned in an attempt to shape the space, represent the ego’s attempt to integrate the unconscious contents into conscious awareness.
Standing on the platform, there are two shadowy figures. The figures are smiling in acceptance, as the self is in harmonious coexistence with parts that were repressed.
The central lines between the shadows represent what is known and unknown, to see and not see. The cycle of discovery and integration.
The holes on the platform that the figures are standing on represent parts of the unconscious that have yet to be integrated into the conscious mind. Even as we strive for wholeness, there is always more to uncover about ourselves.
